Barlas started finger foods with a soft pear when he was 10 months old. The excitement of first motherhood can prolong the transition to finger food a little. Oh, will he drown, oh can he manage? If we start this process with the right foods at the right time, there is nothing to be afraid of.
What is finger food, let's go over it first for new mothers.
finger food; These are foods that babies can easily eat by themselves, holding them with their hands. Your baby will try to eat the food that is put in front of him, which will make the meal fun and will start to discover the texture, smell and taste of the foods he eats.
It is an eagerly awaited situation for your baby to be able to feed himself/herself. In babies, the desire to be active while eating usually starts when they start sitting with their head held high, that is, when they are about 6-9 months old.
So when should I start giving finger food to my baby?
Here are the tips:
He can sit up without your help.
He's trying to interfere while you feed your baby.
He can pick up small objects using his thumb and forefinger.
He can easily put objects in his hands to his mouth.
He can crush food on his palate.
My recommendations:
Start with the flavors your baby is familiar with and love.
The food you put in front of the baby should be about 5-6 mm in diameter.
What the baby should avoid when transitioning to finger food: Hard fruits and vegetables, whole grapes, hard cheese.
Foods that can be preferred for the baby's transition to finger food: Well-cooked meat, pieces of soft fruit such as banana and peach, soft and cooked foods such as pancake omelette.
It should not be forgotten that finger food plays an important role in the development of your baby's self-confidence. Finger food is one of the first things a baby can achieve on his own.
